The University of Canterbury Business School receives AMBA re-accreditation

The University of Canterbury Business School (UC Business School) has officially received re-accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), one of the world’s leading authorities in post-graduate business education, demonstrating its continuing commitment to excellence in management education.

Upon receiving AMBA accreditation, all current MBA and recent MBA alumni of the UC Business School are invited to join AMBA’s global member community of more than 60,000 students and alumni in more than 150 countries on a free basis, for networking, thought leadership, career development, and a variety of benefits.

Accreditation from the Association of MBAs represents the highest standard of achievement in post-graduate business education. Its rigorous assessment criteria ensure that only the highest-calibre programmes which demonstrate the best standards in teaching, curriculum, and student interaction achieve Association of MBAs accreditation.

The UC Business School is based in Christchurch in New Zealand.

During the accreditation process conducted by AMBA, members of the accreditation panel, representing senior management from globally accredited business schools, commended the fact that the school is well connected with local business, and they have driven the creation of an academia/industry ecosystem. The panel also saw this reflected in the MBA programme, where industry was well integrated into the courses offered (e.g. co-teaching with academics and practitioners). This was seen to be well received by stakeholders.

The panel also noted that the school is committed to the sustainability agenda; this is exemplified by the fact they are the first PRME Champion in New Zealand.

Finally, the panel noted that the school and wider University offers a campus experience which is unique within New Zealand. The school also offers an international experience with the re-introduction of the international study trip to Singapore in 2023 which the panel saw adding value to the programme.

“Our AMBA re-accreditation is testament to the quality of our MBA programme. It reflects the hard work and dedication of the faculty and industry practitioners who teach into our courses, and the commitment of our MBA Advisory Board who continue to challenge us to deliver the best programme possible within New Zealand.” commented, Executive Dean, Professor Paul Ballantine.

AMBA accreditation is international in scope and reach, and AMBA works under the belief that accredited programmes should be of the highest standard and consider changing trends and innovation in post-graduate management education. Its accreditation process reflects this commitment to fostering innovation, and demanding business schools to perform at the highest level continually.

Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (BGA) said: “Congratulations to the University of Canterbury Business School for receiving this re-accreditation. Particular congratulations should go to the school’s commitment to sustainability. AMBA only accredits the top 2% of business schools world-wide and it is fitting that the University of Canterbury Business School is within the network.”
