Attendees heard from Birmingham Business School and Deloitte as they shared how they created and sustained the renowned Birmingham MBA Deloitte Consultancy Challenge. This groundbreaking initiative, developed within the context of management education and responsible management education, had been running for 14 years and was recently recognised with the Best Business School Global Partnership Award at the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and Business Graduates Association (BGA) Excellence Awards.
The Challenge was a fully immersive consultancy training week, frequently cited by prospective MBA candidates as a key reason for choosing the Birmingham MBA. Through this innovative partnership, the business school’s teaching faculty combined its educational expertise with Deloitte’s consultancy capabilities. Over time, they identified new delivery methods and developed a unique skill set, highlighting the power of collaboration between higher education institutions and industry. The success of the programme demonstrated that neither partner could have reached the current level of impact independently—underscoring the strength of partnerships in advancing business education.
Participants gained insight into how such a programme contributed to the school’s standing in business school accreditation and its role in equipping business school students with real-world consultancy experience.
